Aston Villa plotting move for experienced Watford midfielder

Aston Villa are interested in bringing Watford’s Adlene Guedioura to Villa Park, according to the Birmingham Mail.

If reports are to be believed, the West Midlands club are preparing to offer the Premier League outfit a fee of £3 million in exchange for his services.

The 31-year-old playmaker is reportedly one of a handful of central midfielders that Steve Bruce is studying with interest this month, having already submitted formal bids for Championship pair Henri Lansbury and Conor Hourihane.

Villa are keen to reinforce their creative options during the transfer window as they look to mount a delayed promotion push, in an attempt to return to England’s top flight at the first time of asking.

Guedioura moved to England in 2010 with Wolves, after spells at numerous European clubs including Creteil, K.V. Kortrijk and Charleroi.

After making his debut against Liverpool, he went on to make 38 appearances for the Molineux side, scoring three times.

His first taste of second-tier experience came with Nottingham Forest; he enjoyed a successful loan spell at the club, before moving Trentside on a permanent deal.

Following a season for Forest where the player appeared in most of the side’s league games, he earned a return to the top flight with Crystal Palace, signing on transfer deadline day in September 2013.

However, he was shipped out on loan twice to his current club Watford, where he helped the Hertfordshire outfit gain promotion to the Premier League two seasons ago before signing a permanent deal at Vicarage Road.

Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa side take on Preston North End this weekend at Villa Park, as they look to return to winning ways after Saturday’s loss to neighbours Wolves.
