Birmingham City to sign striker they sold in the summer

Birmingham City are interested in signing Bury’s James Vaughan just a few months after they sold him according to a report from HITC Sport.

Last January, Birmingham agreed a deal with Huddersfield Town where they would sign Vaughan on loan for the rest of the season before making that deal permanent in the summer. However they seemed to regret that move almost instantly as by the end of the summer transfer window, Vaughan had completed a move to Bury after his contract with the Blues was terminated by mutual consent.

And ever since the 28-year-old striker decided to make the drop down to Sky Bet League One, he has been in stunning form and has been a bright spot in what has been a fairly poor season for the Shakers so far. This season Vaughan has scored 14 goals in 23 appearances and got national attention by scoring an amazing four goals in just twenty minutes in yesterday’s match against Peterborough United.

And because of that, Birmingham could be set to bring Vaughan back to St Andrews. The club is now under different management after the shock departure of Gary Rowett and Gianfranco Zola being appointed as the new head coach and he has made signing a new striker his priority. The West Midlands club has only scored 30 times this year and know that they will need to improve that tally if they want to compete for the Sky Bet play-off spots this season. And while it may be slightly humiliating to sign a player they sold just a short while ago, the Blues know they’ll need to get as many top quality players as possible if they want to get promoted.
