Leeds United: Monk set for new contract

Sky Sports sources understand Leeds United are set to enter contract negotiations with manager Garry Monk.

The 37-year-old boss signed just a one-year contact in the summer as he replaced Steve Evans. But Monk has captured the imagination of Leeds United fans as the club have climbed to the play-off zone of Championship and sit in third place.

New owner Andrea Radrizzani has confirmed he wants to reward the former Swansea City boss for his efforts and extend the deal “It’s not a big issue, to be honest. We are in communication – myself, Massimo and Garry,” he said.

“I see that all the three parties are convinced and have the intention to stay together. Sooner or later we will sit down.

“At the moment, everyone is focused on the day-to-day work. We will fix this, I am very confident we will fix it.”

Garry Monk has an amazing 56.3% win rate with the Yorkshire club, which is the highest win percentage of any permanent Leeds United manager. Ever.

Monk is the current record holder at his club, bettering iconic managers of the past such as Don Revie and Jimmy Armfield.

The attendances at Elland Road are growing and Monk has created a feel-good factor around the club which has been deprived of positivity for so long.

Leeds have lost just two of their last 14 league games and are six points away from an automatic promotion. The upcoming second half of the season will be critical and will be the best chance Garry Monk’s team have had to return to the Premier League in years.

The Whites travel to Barnsley next week, who will be without star striker Sam Winnall.
