The 5 early contenders to be the next Nottingham Forest manager

For those that are not aware, Nottingham Forest parted company with head coach Philippe Montanier on the evening following the 0-0 draw at Birmingham City. The result, combined with the fact they haven’t won since December, leaves the club hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone. They now look for a new manager.

Gary Brazil has been installed as caretaker manager of the two-time European Cup winners, and whilst the league table may suggest otherwise, it is definitely an attractive job for someone. That applies not just to out of work managers but there will certainly be some willing to leave their club role to take on the City Ground challenge.

Sky Bet has released early betting prices as to who will most likely be high on the shortlist for the Nottingham Forest hierarchy to consider for the vacancy. Once they shift aside all of the likely ‘Football Manager applicants’, then the club will most likely have the following five names among them.

Gary Rowett – Last club: Birmingham City

Now this certainly isn’t a shock. The former Birmingham City and Burton Albion manager was soon installed as the odds on favourite to succeed Montanier. This is mainly because of the huge link that there was a few weeks ago, even when Frenchman Montanier was still in the job with the Reds. Now there is essentially a vacancy to be filled, will Rowett be tempted?

The short answer to that is yes. Although there will be many Forest fans quick to point out some recent comments supposedly stated by Rowett in recent times. The Nottingham Post said that he would be unwilling to take the job if Fawaz al Hasawi was the chairman. Given the proposed American consortium takeover collapses, al Hasawi remains with the club. Does this put a spanner in the works? Based on that article, then yes. But realistically, this is a great job and surely one that Rowett would love to get his teeth stuck into. He is proven at this level and has been a success wherever he has been. He was heavily linked to a Premier League job recently (Hull City), and it won’t be long before he is touted with another.
