German keeper linked with Robins

Sky Bet Championship club Bristol City are being linked with a loan move for Schalke goalkeeper Fabian Giefer according to the Bristol Post.

The 26-year-old Adenau born stopper is currently out of favour at the Veltins-Arena and a move away from the German club could help the player further his career.

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson is rumoured to be considering making an offer to take the keeper on loan until the end of the campaign with either Frank Fielding, Richard O’Donnell or Ivan Lucic possibly leaving Ashton Gate later this month.

Schalke keeper Giefer is a product of the Bayer Leverkusen academy with the player graduating through the club’s youth and reserve teams to feature for the club at first team level. The player made eight senior appearances during his time at the BayArena. In 2011, Giefer suffered concussion resulting in the keeper losing his memory for over a month.

The following summer the player joined Fortuna Dusseldorf after turning down Bayern Munich in a bid for regular first team football. Geifer made 68 appearances for Flingeraner in two years with the club.

Geifer joined current club Schalke in summer 2014 but the player has struggled for first team opportunities and the keeper could be set to leave the club to grasp the chance of regular action.
