Tottenham defender wants Sheffield United return

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker has revealed he dreams of making a return to his childhood club before he retires.

The England international, still only 26 years of age, joined the Premier League club in 2009 alongside fellow Blade Kyle Naughton. At the time, the older of the pair, Naughton, was rated higher than Walker but it is now the younger right-back that wins the plaudits. The Sheffield-born Spurs star burst onto the scene at White Heart Lane with a 25-yard strike in the North London Derby and has gone on to make over 200 appearances for Tottenham.

Speaking in a joint Sky Sports interview with fellow South Yorkshireman Danny Rose, Walker revealed, unlike Rose, he does not want to commit his career to his current club:

“Hopefully one day I’ll get to play for Sheffield United in the Premier League, hopefully that’s a dream that can come true.

“They put a lot of faith in me and hopefully I can finish my career there, just to say thank you.”

The defender joined the Blades aged eight and ten years later made his senior debut in a FA Cup tie at Leyton Orient. Walker made his first-team break-through that same season and played in all three fixtures in the Championship play-offs.

Since leaving Bramall Lane, Walker has played against Sheffield United three times. He made his return on his Aston Villa debut on a loan spell, scoring a goal after nine minutes to which he did not celebrate. He also played in both games as Tottenham advanced to Wembley after a two-legged League Cup semi-final.

He may be capped 23 times for his country and linked with a move to Real Madrid, but it is up north in Sheffield where Kyle Walker dreams of finishing his career.
