Leeds United: Millers boss admits Whites midfielder interests him

Leeds boss Garry Monk has said that it is best that the 29-year-old moves on from Elland Road, a sure fire indication that his future is done and dusted at the West Yorkshire club.

The Paris-born French-Malian was brought in from Brentford by former Leeds boss Steve Evans for a fee of around £600,000 from Londoners Brentford near the end of the January transfer window a year ago.

He started out his footballing career at French giants Paris St Germain before a move to Watford at the opening of the summer 2005 window. Moves through clubs such as Swindon, Hereford and Peterborough brought him to Brentford and eventually Leeds United.

He began to endear himself to sections of the Leeds United support almost straight away with a goal on his debut in the FA Cup Fourth Round tie away at Bolton – a 2-1 victory that set up an away tie at Premier League Watford. Not well-known for his goal-scoring exploits, the powerful defensive midfielder netted twice more for Leeds last season, scoring in consecutive wins against Reading (3-2) and Wolves (2-1).

Whilst his place at leeds may well have been usurped by the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Eunan O’Kane, Ronaldo Vieira and Liam Bridcutt, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have something that other teams might be able to take advantage of.

Luke Murphy has already seen his time at Elland Road cut short with a loan move to Burton Albion, a team where at least he will get some game time. It appears that Toumani Diagouraga could very well be travelling down the path trodden by Murphy in order to get back on the pitch.

Interest from Rotherham, who are at the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship, could very well represent a good move for the man who Brentford fans christened ‘Dave’ as he looks to put himself in the shop window.
