Magpies scout Sky Blues defender

Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls Newcastle United are understood to have scouted Coventry City youngster Cian Harries according to The Shields Gazette.

The 19-year-old Birmingham born centre back is a product of The Sky Blues’ academy system and is highly rated by the club.

Harries recently spent time on trial at Premier League giants Liverpool although The Reds are yet to make a decision over whether to make an offer for the promising youngster. Parent club Coventry City recalled the defender from his trial spell to help provide cover for a defensive shortage.

Upon his return to The Ricoh Arena, the player was handed a start in Coventry City’s 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion Under-21s in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday evening and it has been reported that a scout from Newcastle United attended the match to watch Harries in action.

The Magpies boss Rafa Benitez has spent time focussing on improving the club’s anticipated growth from academy level upwards with the Spaniard having scouted a number of players for the club’s development squad and Coventry City youngster Harries may be added to United’s wanted list. The Tynesiders have recently scouted some of the most promising up and coming talent from across the world in a bid to help them provide a conveyor belt of talent to the first team for many years to come.
