Ipswich Town offer ticket discount in attempt to raise attendances

Sky Bet Championship club Ipswich Town have issued a letter to supporters offering a sale on home tickets in an attempt to raise attendances at Portman Road.

The letter (left), offers supporters of the Suffolk side a 50% discount for the home Championship tie to Blackburn Rovers at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Tractor Boys currently sit fifteenth in the league and loom seven points above the relegation places. However, the Club are calling for supporters to get behind their team in an attempt to hit a much-needed run in form in an attempt to resurrect their season.

The average attendance in the second-tier of English football averages at around 20,000, the Tractor Boys have successfully attracted that many supporters just once – when East Anglian rivals Norwich came to Suffolk in August.

The letter states: “Thank you for your loyal support over the last few seasons. As a thank you from us, we would like to offer you 50% discount on a ticket for this Saturday’s home match against Blackburn Rovers FC, 3:00pm kick off.”

Many supporters were surprised to receive the letter, including Blues fans David Messenger and Michael Dongray:

“I see it as a positive move by the club. With dwindling attendances, anything to encourage the return of supporters is good.” Michael, a supporter of Town for 50 years, said. “Unfortunately I am working on Saturday otherwise I would have gone.”

“Surprised but pleased as I thought ‘about time they did something to try and boost flagging gates in the absence of inspiring performances and results on the pitch.” David said. “Increasing the attendance will hopefully give a better atmosphere which will hopefully in turn lift the players ….good tactics if they work!”
