Tim Sherwood’s contacts in the game pay dividends for Swindon as the League One side make three loan signings from Premier League highfliers Chelsea until the end of the season.

Defender Fankaty Dabo, midfielder Charlie Colkett and forward Islam Feruz join the League One strugglers who have failed to record a league win since November and sit just four points above the drop zone.

Right-back Dabo comes in as a direct replacement for the departing Darnell Furlong who, along with midfielder Michael Doughty, was recalled to Championship side QPR last week. Colkett, who captained Chelsea’s youth side in their Uefa Youth League win last year, spent the first half of the season on loan at rivals Bristol Rovers and could be available to play against his former teammates when the two teams face off later this month. Feruz becomes the Town squad’s fifth striker, coming in in to help bolster the side’s faltering forward line, who have managed only 10 goals between them in all competitions this term.

The transfers have come at just the right time for the West Country side. No league win in six had led to calls for chairman Lee Power to step aside following another disappointing home performance against fellow strugglers Shrewsbury on Saturday. Swindon failed to make a man and goal advantage count, before the Shrews’ 80th minute equaliser cancelled out John Goddard’s opener from the spot.

Two busy days for Director of Football, Sherwood, may have calmed some supporter’s mid-season nerves, however, with four impressive signings that started with the re-signing of former Robins midfielder Ben Gladwin on loan until the end of the season. Swindon travel to promotion-chasers Bolton Wanderers on Saturday looking to record their first win away from the County Ground since September.
