Bradford City close to bringing Newcastle winger in on loan.

Sky Bet League One side Bradford City are close to announcing a deal that will see 20-year-old Newcastle winger Alex Gilliead move to Valley Parade on loan for the rest of the season, according to the reports.

The Bantams look set to announce their second January recruit after the signing of striker Alex Jones on a permanent deal at the end of last week from Sky Bet Championship outfit Birmingham City.

Alex Gilliead will join the Sky Bet League One side on loan for the remainder of the season from Newcastle United and could feature in this weekends match against struggling Shrewsbury if the deal is completed within the next few days.

Alex Gilliead spent last season in League Two at Carlisle on loan, scoring five goals in 41 appearances. That has since been followed up with a half season loan in the same division with Luton Town where the winger managed to score twice in 21 appearances.

This week the Telegraph & Argus spoke to Stuart McCall who admitted he is looking to add another wide man to his squad during the transfer window and confirmed: “He is one on the radar.”

Any move for youngster Gilliead away from Newcastle is likely to be a loan move however as he is still very highly regarded by the North East club. Gilliead appears to be one of Newcastle’s most exciting up-and-coming prospects.

With the Bantams currently sitting in fourth position in the Sky Bet League One table, seven points behind second placed Scunthorpe, it’s clear to see that new owners Stefan Rupp and Edin Rahic are ready to bring in the recruits for an assault on the automatic promotion places.
