Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has ended transfer rumours linking Ruben Loftus-Cheek with a move to Newcastle United or Brighton & Hove Albion, as confirmed in today’s Newcastle Chronicle.
The 20-year-old has been strongly linked with a loan move to the Championship to gain some much-needed experience but it now appears Loftus-Cheek will not be leaving Stamford Bridge.
Following the 4-1 victory over Peterborough United on Sunday, where the England U21 international played 70 minutes and made an assist, the Italian boss said, “Ruben is an important player for Chelsea.
“He must know this. We trust a lot on him. For this reason it’s important to work a lot and to take satisfaction with our team.
“No, No. Absolutely (he’s not leaving). I don’t want this. For Ruben I don’t want this.
“He knows this and the club knows this. I want him to stay because he’s ready to play for the first team.
“If he shows me he wants to play, he knows that he plays.”
The midfielder would have been a huge asset for both Championship clubs to boost their chances of promotion to the Premier League. The Magpies are also linked with the shock transfers of Everton pair Tom Cleverley and James McCarthy.
Rafa Benitez’s side face a trip down south to Brentford on Saturday whilst the league-leaders travel to Deepdale to face 11th placed Preston North End, following last weekend’s FA Cup victory against MK Dons. The Seagulls will be looking to stretch their unbeaten league run to an astonishing 19 games and maintain their 100% record in 2017.
