League Two side Grimsby Town are one of a number of clubs interested in Biggleswade Town striker Inih Effiong, who is expected to leave the Southern Premier League club in the January transfer window, according to a report in Biggleswade Today.
The well-travelled striker has hit top form for the Waders this term, with a Christmas haul of six goals in just three games taking his tally to 21 for the season already.
A number of scouts from clubs in England and Scotland saw the 25-year-old net a hat-trick in a match at St Neots on Boxing Day and rumours had heavily linked the former St Albans City man with a move to Barnet, also in League Two.
But eagle-eyed Mariners’ fans on Twitter spotted the Biggleswade hotshot in a photo at the club’s training ground on Monday, ahead of a reserve game where Town will travel to Rotherham United with seven trialists in their ranks.
Waders’ boss Chris Nunn took to Twitter amidst the speculation and said: “It looks like (his) last game for the Waders, full time football bound. So proud of him.”
The news of a new striker possibly inbound to Blundell Park will come as interesting news to Mariners’ fans, especially after interest in the club’s top scorer, Omar Bogle, heated up with an £850,000 bid from Championship strugglers Rotherham United turned down on Monday.
