Fernando Forestieri pens one-year deal with Sheffield Wednesday

Fernando Forestieri has signed a new one-year contract extension with Sheffield Wednesday as confirmed by the club website.

The 26-year-old forward signed for the Owls from Watford for an undisclosed fee last season and quickly became a star player for the team. He scored 15 goals as Wednesday reached the Sky Bet Championship play-off final for the first time in their history though they ended up being beaten by Hull City at Wembley.

However he soon turned from hero to zero at the start of this season. He refused to travel with the rest of the squad for their match against Norwich City as he aimed to force to a move to Derby County or Newcastle United who had placed bids for him earlier that week. However the management of the club were able to persuade Forestieri to stay at the club and get back to playing first team football and he has gone on to make 21 appearances and score six goals this season.

And in case the likes of Derby and Newcastle were considering going back in Forestieri this transfer window, Wednesday have now sealed Forestieri’s contract at the club for another year and now the Italian will be staying at Hillsborough until 2020. And with his future at the club now secured, he can now concentrate on getting the Owls promoted from the Championship. They are currently 6th in the league right now but will hope to move up the table and make their position in the top six more secure.
