Championship club see £850,000 Omar Bogle bid turned down

Sky Bet Championship strugglers Rotherham United have seen their £850,000 bid for striker Omar Bogle rejected by Grimsby Town. The 24-year-old, who is currently the top scorer in Sky Bet League Two, has been the subject of big transfer speculation in the January transfer window.

Many clubs in the Championship are said to be monitoring the situation and Rotherham are the first club to show their hand. Bogle has played a major role in Grimsby’s solid start to life back in the English Football League, and it was his goals which greatly contributed to earning them promotion last season.

Brentford are another club believed to be firmly interested in the player, especially with their own star striker, Scott Hogan, being heavily linked with a big-money move into the Premier League with West Ham United. The Mariners are understandably keen to keep hold of their prized possession but clubs do look set to continue making bids to test out how much they want to keep him.

Marcus Bignot has enjoyed a strong start to life in the Blundell Park dugout and the goals and contributions of Bogle has played a major part in that. Losing him now would be a huge blow and he is not easily replaceable. It is inevitable clubs at a higher level would declare their interest and it is likely to be a big few weeks for Bogle. Where will he be playing his football this time next month? Time will most certainly tell.
