Forest forward ’embarrassed’ by their ‘shocking’ FA Cup performance

Speaking to the BBC, Nottingham Forest forward Ben Osborn admits that he felt ’embarrassed’ during their Emirates FA Cup Third Round defeat to struggling Sky Bet Championship rivals Wigan Athletic on Saturday. Defeat at the DW Stadium was a fifth in a row for out of form Forest.

The 22-year-old has been one of the rare shining lights in what has been a largely disappointing season at the City Ground. Osborn, who can play either out wide or just behind the striker, has played 28 times under Philippe Montanier this season, scoring in the 5-2 away victory over Barnsley in November.

However the midfield player did not hold back in his post match interview, stating his anger and overall disappointment of the team performance on Saturday afternoon,

“It was shocking, especially in the second half. It was two teams low on confidence in the first half.

“They grew in the second half. At times they were playing around us and I felt embarrassed out there at times.”

Osborn, who should be in the starting eleven for this weekend’s league encounter away to Birmingham City, says that the team must improve and quickly, stating they need to change their approach to try and rectify the situation them find themselves in,

“Everyone is trying to come together. I just think 50-50 battles on the pitch, they won the majority, which has been the same in recent weeks.

“At the moment, we think we are better than we are. We need to go back to basics, we need to be disciplined and hard to break down, instead of being absolutely all over the place.”
