Robins to trial Icelandic international

Out of form Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City are thought to have offered Icelandic midfielder Willum Thor Willumsson a trial at Ashton Gate according to the Bristol Post.

The 18-year-old plays his football with Urvalsdeild Karla league club Breidablik Kopavogur who are one of the top clubs in Icelandic football.

The Icelandic Under 19s international is contracted to Bilkar until summer 2018 but it has been reported that the player could move to England to kick start his senior career and Bristol City boss Lee Johnson is thought to have offered the midfielder a trial with The Robins.

Willumsson plays his football with the Breidablik Kopavogur academy and has represented his club in the UEFA Youth League at Under 19s level. Should the player complete a move to Ashton Gate, it is thought that the midfielder could continue his immediate development with the Bristol City development squad or be loaned out to a lower division club to learn more about the English game.

Bristol City’s interest in Willumsson is evidence of the club’s widespread scouting system. The Robins are prepared to search far and wide for quality players and after having success last season with the same scouting model, the club are in a strong position to continue to good work.
