Aston Villa: Old Firm side Rangers chasing Villans youngster

Aston Villa youngster Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is linked with a move to Scottish giants Rangers, according to the Coventry Telegraph.

The 18-year-old rejected a contract at Villa Park this week and has been axed from the first team by Villa boss Steve Bruce for his lack of commitment to the club.

Hepburn-Murphy made his professional debut in 2015 in a 4-0 Premier League away victory against Sunderland aged just 16, becoming Villa’s second youngest player ever. This season, the youngster has featured just twice for the Championship outfit, with his last appearance coming in Monday’s loss to Cardiff City. However, Bruce utilised the forward as he believed Hepburn-Murphy was set to complete his new deal, only for negotiations to break down.

Bruce then withdrew the England U18 international from Saturday’s FA Cup squad, “He (Hepburn-Murphy) won’t be involved.

“We have made a fantastic offer to the young boy but until he commits he won’t be involved.

“I involved him (at Cardiff) because I was informed he would sign but he hasn’t yet.

“Until he commits then I won’t commit to him.

“I would rather get a young player in who will commit.”

It is now reported that Mark Warburton is interested in bring the youngster to the Ibrox. The Gers brought in a number of English youngsters to Glasgow in the summer in Josh Windass, Matt Crooks and Liverpool’s Jordan Rossiter and want to add Hepburn-Murphy to that list.

The Villa youngster may gain more game-time at Rangers. English youngster Josh Windass joined from Accrington Stanley in the summer and has made 15 appearances for the Scottish Premiership team this season.
