Bristol City have confirmed the signing of Australian defender Bailey Wright from Sky Bet Championship rivals Preston North End according to BBC Sport.

The 24-year-old centre back has been on Robins boss Lee Johnson’s wanted list for a number of weeks and the player has now moved to Ashton Gate for an undisclosed fee.

It has been reported that Wright has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Bristol City with the club having the option of extending the deal by a further year. Wright could make his debut for The Robins in the FA Cup Third Round tie with Sky Bet League One promotion chasers Fleetwood Town at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

Wright joined former club Preston North End as a 16-year-old and the defender graduated from the club’s youth academy into the first team set up. The player went of to become a hugely important member of manager Simon Grayson’s squad. Wright made 205 senior appearances during his time at Deepdale and scored eight goals.

Bristol City manager Johnson has been searching a defensive addition with The Robins currently struggling for form in the Sky Bet Championship. City have lost eight of their last nine league matches and have tumbled down the league table to an unimpressive 18th position.
