Like League Two, the winners of the Sky Bet League One manager and player of the month awards have this morning been confirmed.

Manager of the Month – Keith Hill (Rochdale)

Rochdale didn’t start the season well but finished the year in fourth place, a reflection of the change in fortunes that manager Keith Hill has manufactured. The team won four out of four in December and scored eleven goals in the process. This included a 3-2 victory against top of the league Scunthorpe.

Pundit Don Goodman has said “The transformation in form from the middle of September to now has been incredible, with Rochdale moving from rock bottom to fourth in League One following an extraordinary run of form, especially at home.

“For a team of Rochdale’s size, the job that Hill has done for a number of years is incredibly impressive and he’ll be hoping they can go one better than last season and earn themselves a Play-Off spot.”

Player of the Month – Matty Lund (Rochdale)

Defensive midfielder Lund played a key part for Dale in December in limiting goals scored by opposition teams. The player did however also chip in at the other end of the pitch scoring a perfect hat-trick against Northampton Town, which was the first of his career.

After receiving the award from the EFL Lund said “It’s a great honour to be named as Player of the Month. It’s always nice to win an award, but I think any one of the lads who played could have been picked because we’ve been excellent.

“We had an amazing December and the whole team was fantastic. We worked hard, we stuck together as a team and we were solid throughout the month.”

Dale face Barrow in the FA Cup next where they’ll be hoping to avoid an upset and carry on their scintillating form into 2017.
