Henri Lansbury ‘close’ to leaving Nottingham Forest, betting suspended

The Daily Mail understands that Aston Villa are ‘close’ to completing the signing of Nottingham Forest captain Henri Lansbury. The 26-year-old has been the subject of big interest over the last couple of transfer windows, and now looks set to be the time he finally departs the City Ground.

Derby County therefore look set to miss out on their transfer target, especially after having a big rejected by their local rival earlier this month. Birmingham City, who were briefly linked with the former Arsenal youngster, also pulled out. Burnley were heavily linked to the player this time last time, but Lansbury elected to stay after last minute talks with owner Fawaz Al Hasawi.

Betting has also been suspended on Lansbury’s next club, further fuelling the likelihood that he is about to play his football at Villa Park in the very near future. This would be a big blow to Nottingham Forest, but not necessarily an unexpected one. They’re currently two points above the relegation zone and in very poor form, so manager Philippe Montanier will be desperately looking for some king of replacement in the coming weeks.

During his time at Forest, Lansbury has netted 33 goals in over 140 appearances. In November, he netted a hat-trick in the 5-2 away victory over Barnsley.

Steve Bruce will be delighted to add a talented and creative midfielder to his ranks, and for a decent £3million fee as well. He’ll compete with the likes of Jack Grealish, Gary Gardner, Ashley Westwood and many more for a place in the starting eleven. Given his proven record at this level, he should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.
