Bolton Wanderers are still in talks with Newcastle United’s Sammy Ameobi according to a report from Evening Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder.
The 24-year-old winger signed on loan with Bolton in the summer after he pushed down the pecking order when the Magpies signed Christian Atsu and Matt Ritchie. During his few months at the Macron Stadium, he played well for Bolton having made 24 appearances and scoring four goals.
However his loan ended as the January transfer window started and he is now back at his parent club Newcastle, though Bolton do want the winger, best known for being the brother of Magies legend Shola, back for the rest of the season as they look to challenge from promotion from Sky Bet League One.
And according to this report, the two clubs are currently in talks as they negotiate a loan new deal for Ameobi. Right now, the point of contention is how much Bolton would pay in wages for Ameobi, though right now it is unclear how big the divide is and this issue could be sorted in the next few days.
Ameobi will be keen to get a move considering his current contract situation. His current deal is set to expire in the summer and as a new one doesn’t look likely to be at Newcastle considering the fact he still struggles to get into the first team, he needs some time on the pitch to impress any potential new clubs. That new club could still be Bolton if he continues to play well for them should he return in the next few weeks.
