Premier League outfit Watford have entered the race to sign Brentford’s Scott Hogan, according to the Guardian.
The Hornets have reportedly offered a fee of £8 million plus £2 million in add-ons in the hope of landing the 24-year-old forward.
The Guardian reports that Watford’s bid is likely to be matched by Premier League rivals West Ham United, who are believed to be in the market for a striker during January’s transfer window.
Hogan has scored 14 goals in 25 league appearances this season. Glenn Murray and Dwight Gayle are the only strikers in the second tier to boast a better record so far during this campaign.
Hogan made the switch to Brentford from Rochdale in July 2014, but has only become a regular feature in the first team this year after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee the season after joining the London club.
Promotion hopefuls Reading have already shown previous interest in the forward, having tabled a £9 million bid before the January transfer window opened.
Another Championship side, Newcastle United, have also looked into the possibility of signing Hogan, but have been told they must pay £15 million, the figure the Bees valued the striker at before the January window.
Speaking about the striker, Brentford boss Dean Smith discussed the speculation by saying “He’ll be in a marketplace and the market tells you the value of it. The market has set its stall as to the price. I think his goals record puts him into a bracket.
“He takes each day as it comes as, against Cardiff, he felt he should have scored. He isn’t being distracted and is very much looking forward to taking on Norwich and getting chances and scoring them.”
Despite Hogan’s goals, Brentford currently sit in 14th place in the Sky Bet Championship table, securing 33 points in 25 games, with nine wins and six draws.
