Liverpool eye Championship winger – a Red by end of January

According to the Sun on Sunday, Liverpool have their eyes cast down to the Championship and firmly fixed on relegated Premier League side Norwich as they look at their next signing.

The player they are focusing on is winger Jacob Murphy who the Sun on Sunday say will be a Liverpool player during this window and who “will be signed and loaned back to Norwich.”

21-year-old Murphy, who has come up through the Norwich youth system and into full first team reckoning has made 22 Sky Bet Championship appearances this season, scoring five goals and providing five assists for the Canaries.

Prior to this season, the youngster has seen his football career with the Norfolk-based side punctuated by a series of loan deals taking him to the likes of Swindon and Southend, Murphy picking up match experieince in that manner.

Whilst on loan, the attacking midfielder has scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists, the majority of these coming from a full season loan deal with Sky Bet League One side Coventry City for whom he scored 10 times for across 43 appearances as well as laying on 10 assists last season.

After impressing for Coventry at a lower level last season, Murphy’s displays in helping Norwich maintain what is a disappointing mid-table position of 12th seemingly hasn’t gone unnoticed by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

The option of a sale to Liverpool with the promise of a loan back to the club is something that may appeal to the Norwich heirarchy as they look to turn around their season and maintain a push towards the top six and the promotion play-offs.
