Leeds, Wednesday and Villa handed potential boost in pursuit of Arsenal youngster

Championship sides Leeds United, Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday have been handed potential boosts in their pursuit of Arsenal youngster Rob Holding, after the centre-back was left out of Arsenal’s squad to face Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The 21-year-old has been in the match day squad for the last three Arsenal games against Everton, Manchester City and West Brom, but has been left out by boss Arsene Wenger this afternoon.

Leeds, Villa and Wednesday have been previously linked with the defender, it is understood that Leeds are in the market for defensive players during the January transfer window.

Garry Monk’s side currently have Kyle Bartley, Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper as available centre-back options, and will be looking to add to the defensive side of the team in the January transfer window.

Leeds have already been linked with players ahead of the window opening today, with David Nugent and Ashley Fletcher reportedly two names on the wishlist.

Holding only made the switch to London from Bolton for a fee of around £2.5 million in the summer, but reports say that Wenger is considering sending Holding out on-loan.

The centre-back has only featured in three Premier League fixtures so far this season. He also played in the EFL Cup games against Nottingham Forest, Reading and Southampton as well as featuring in the full 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 4-1 Champions League victory over FC Basel.
