Villa boss expects striker to depart

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce expects striker Rudy Gestede to leave the club during the upcoming transfer window according to BBC Sport.

The 28 year old forward has been linked with several clubs in recent weeks and it is now believed that the player could be set for a Villa Park exit.

Villa boss Bruce has revealed that the club have opened talks with Premier League new boys Middlesbrough over a proposed move to The Riverside Stadium for striker Gestede. A deal could be good for both Aston Villa and the player with the club in need of funds to re-invest in the squad while Gestede is thought to be desperate for more regular first team football.

Benin international Gestede joined Aston Villa in summer 2015 for a reported £6 million transfer fee from Blackburn Rovers. The player has gone on to make 55 appearances for Villa and has scored 10 goals.

Gestede’s potential new employers Middlesbrough have enjoyed a solid start to the season upon their return to the top flight with Aitor Karanka’s side currently sitting four points above the relegation zone in 15th place. Goals have been a problem on Teesside though with Boro scoring on 16 occasions, just twice more than lowest scorers Hull City.
