Everton make move for Aston Villa defender

Everton have made their first move to sign Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi according to a report from French publication La Provence.

The 22-year-old defender had signed for Aston Villa from French side Nice in the summer of 2015, but he was unfortunate as he would go on to suffer an anterior ligament cruciate injury which would keep out of most of the season where the club were relegated from the Premier League. However since recovering from that problem, he has been a regular for the Villains and has started to show why former boss Tim Sherwood spent £9m on him last season.

However with Amavi playing at a level which is lower than you’d expect, many teams have come out of the woodwork to give him a chance to escape the Sky Bet Championship in the upcoming January transfer window. Marseille are interested in giving the Frenchman the opportunity to return to his home country but now a Premier League team has made an approach to try and sign Amavi.

Everton are looking to sign another left back to compete with their current starter Leighton Baines, who will be at Goodison Park until 2019 after recently penning a new deal with the club. With Amavi being in such great form since recovering from injury and having his best years in front of him, not only do the Toffees believe he would be great competition but think that he could take over from Baines when he eventually grows too old to play in the position.
