Australian striker given trial at Sheffield United

Peter Skapetis has been given a trial at Sheffield United according to a report from The Sun.

The 21-year-old striker was originally born in Melbourne, Australia but he soon found his way to England to play for QPR’s youth academy. He would later be picked up by Stoke City but couldn’t break through into the first team there and was released and remains a free agent.

Most recently he was on trial at Cardiff City but after failing to impress enough in South Wales to get a contract there, he has now headed north to South Yorkshire to have a go at getting a deal with Sheffield United.

And luckily for the Australian, he will get an instant chance to impress as the U23s will have a match tomorrow that he is widely expected to start. They will take on Nottingham Forest at Stocksbridge Park Steels’ Look Local Stadium tomorrow at 2pm, the developmental team’s last game before Christmas. If he impresses in this game, it is a possibility that he will be given the full time contract he has been looking for ever since he was released by Stoke City.

If Skapetis was to get a deal, he’ll face plenty of competition to get into the first team. Hometown lad Billy Sharp has been in superb form this season and has lead the Blades to 2nd place in the Sky Bet League One table. They are now just three points off first place Scunthorpe United and will hope to overtake them before 2016 has ended.
