Marseille back in the market for highly-rated Championship full back

French football news site Football Club De Marseille reports that Ligue 1 side Marseille are once again interested in signing Aston Villa left back Jordan Amavi. The 22-year-old defender has previously been linked with a move to the 1993 Champions League winners, along with the likes of Liverpool as well.

Amavi is now the regular left back in Steve Bruce’s starting eleven after former Liverpool full back Ally Cissokho started the season as first choice under then manager Roberto Di Matteo. He has made 16 appearances for Villa this season, beaten the 12 he managed last season after injury cut short his campaign.

Andoni Zubizarreta has since been named as sporting director at Marseille, who are planning significant changes to their playing squad over the new few transfer windows thanks to the backing of Frank McCourt. Although Amavi in the past he ruled out a move to Marseille, signalling his intent to do his best at Villa Park, it remains to be seen if he would indeed be tempted to join Rudi Garcia’s revolution at Stade Velodrome.

Prior to joining Villa in 2015, Amavi made a name for himself in Ligue 1 with Nice, who currently top the division under Andre Fabre. That experience alone makes him a considerable target for a move back to France, although he too has been linked with Liverpool, who have had some left backs issues in the past but James Milner is seemingly making that position his own at the moment.
