Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace are understood to be considering a move for Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede according to The Telegraph.

The Eagles are fighting for Premier League survival and are understood to have identified the 28 year old Benin international as a player who could help lift the gloom currently surrounding Selhurst Park.

Gestede is under contract at Villa Park until summer 2020 and Palace may have to pay a significant transfer fee to have any chance of landing the player with the striker playing an important part in Villa’s rise up the Sky Bet Championship table. The player has made 17 appearances for Villa so far this season scoring four goals.

The striker was born in France and began his career with Metz. Gestede successfully worked his way up from the academy system into the B team before being handed his chance in the first team. The player scored five goals in just 14 appearances for The Maroons in the French Ligue 2 before signing for Cardiff City in summer 2011 following a successful trial.

Gestede spent two-and-a-half years at The Cardiff City Stadium before joining Blackburn Rovers on a loan deal which was later made permanent. The striker averaged almost one goal every two matches for Rovers and in summer 2015, Aston Villa came calling for his services, signing the player for a £6 million transfer fee.
