Controversial Southend striker charged by police

Southend United’s Nile Ranger has been charged by the police with conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering according to a report from the Independent.

Recent allegations suggest that the 25-year-old striker had been involved in a scam where they would attempt to get a vulnerable person’s bank details so they could access the account and get the money for themselves. The charge was made public on Monday and Ranger has been summoned to Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 14th December (Today) to answer the charges.

A spokesmen for the Met Police said: “Nile Ranger, 25, of N10, was charged on Monday 12 December with conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.”

“He appears at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday, 14 December.”

“The offences are alleged to have been committed on or around 18 February 2015 and relate to the fraudulent obtaining of bank details by telephone from a vulnerable person in order to gain access to the victim’s savings.”

This is just the latest charge Ranger has got in a career which has seen him get into plenty of trouble with the police. Before becoming a professional, Ranger was sentenced to 11 weeks in a Young Offenders Institute after being found guilty of being involved in a street robbery. And over the years he has been charged with assault, being drunk and disorderly and even rape, though charges were dropped or he was found not guilty in all of those cases.

Most recently things had been turning around for Ranger. After a successful trial with Southend during the summer, he signed a massive three and a half year contract which shocked plenty of people when it was announced.
