Reading plan January move for Premier League midfielder

Reading are planning a January move for Crystal Palace midfielder Jordon Mutch, according to the Daily Mirror and Get Reading.

Crystal Palace were apparently open to selling Mutch before the start of the season, but a move for the midfielder never materialised.  After playing only eight minutes of football in the Premier League this season, Palace will again look to offload Mutch in January.

Championship side Reading are understood to be interested in signing Mutch next month, and further bolster their squad as they look to get promoted this season.  Jaap Stam’s side currently sit in third place in the Championship table, six points behind leaders Newcastle.  The club could also get a cash injection if a takeover deal goes through in time for the January transfer window next month.

Crystal Palace are believed to value Mutch at around £2.5 million, despite signing him for almost £5 million last year.  Several other sides have also been linked with the midfielder, including Scottish side Celtic and Aston Villa.

Mutch began his career with Birmingham and was loaned out several times, his most successful spell being with Watford.  The midfielder was sold to Cardiff in June 2012 and made 60 appearances for the club.

Following Cardiff’s relegation from the Premier League, Mutch was sold to Queens Park Rangers for a fee believed to be around £6 million.  He failed to nail down a first-team place in his only season at the club before leaving to join Crystal Palace.

Being unable to cement his position in the first-team has been a regular theme for Mutch, so a move to Championship side Reading may help him.
