Steve Bruce looking to sign Hull City veteran for second time

Aston Villa head coach Steve Bruce is looking to sign Hull City’s Allan McGregor for the second time in his career according to a report from the Daily Record.

Bruce has made it no secret that he is looking to sign a new goalkeeper in the upcoming January transfer window as he is currently unhappy with the options presented to him. Already he has been linked with moves for Sheffield Wednesday’s Keiren Westwood and another Hull keeper in the shape of Eldin Jakupovic.

But Bruce is now turning his eyes to the other reserve goalkeeper that is at Hull, McGregor. Bruce signed him for the Tigers back in 2013 from Turkish club Besiktas and he was the number one for many years at the KC Stadium. However he has struggled with injuries for a while now and is currently out of action and even when he does return, he is expected to be the third choice behind Jakupovic and summer signing David Marshall.

What would be appealing about signing McGregor would be the experience he could give to the other goalkeepers. While Villa’s own summer signing Pierluigi Gollini has been hit and miss since moving to Villa Park in the summer, he is still only 21 and he could learn a lot from a 34-year-old that has played across Europe and has been an international for Scotland.

It seems like Bruce wants to bring many of his old Hull players to Aston Villa as he has also been linked with moves for Ahmed Elmohamady and Abel Hernandez since he joined the club.
