Saints unlikely to sell Rovers loanee

Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle has reassured fans that he does not expect on loan striker Sam Gallagher to be sold by parent club Southampton during the January transfer window according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

The 21 year old Crediton born front man is a product of the well established Saints academy system and the player joined Rovers on a season long loan deal in August.

Gallagher has impressed during his short time at Ewood Park scoring seven goals in 20 appearances for Rovers and the player’s good form is one of the contributing factors towards the club’s rise from the SkyBet Championship relegation zone.

Coyle is thought to want to sign the player on a permanent basis along with a number of other clubs however The Rovers boss has advised that parent club Southampton are pleased with Gallagher’s recent development and he does not expect the young striker to be sold during the January transfer window.

Exactly one third of Blackburn Rovers’ goal tally in the SkyBet Championship this season belongs to Gallagher and the striker is crucial to the club’s hopes of remaining in the second tier. Rovers have difficult fixtures ahead with a local derby against Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday before they welcome second place Brighton & Hove Albion to Ewood Park next Tuesday.
