Championship clubs once again plot move for Middlesbrough striker

Several Sky Bet Championship clubs are interested in signing Middlesbrough’s Jordan Rhodes according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Rhodes was signed by Middlesbrough from Blackburn Rovers for £9m last January but this hasn’t been a move that has worked out for the Teesside club. He struggled for form upon his initial signing and since their promotion to the Premier League has made four appearances and looks set to leave Riverside at some point in the future so he can get back to playing regular first team football, with even their head coach Aitor Karanka admitting that he is for sale.

This has led to a mass of clubs being interested in signing Rhodes, with many of them coming from the Championship. Derby County, Brighton and Hove Albion, Norwich City, Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday, who were rumoured to be tracking him on Transfer deadline day in August, are all considering making bids for Rhodes in the upcoming January transfer window to boost their chances of getting promoted to the Premier League this season. These Championship teams will face plenty of competition to sign Rhodes though as Premier League sides Burnley and Hull City are interested alongside Scottish champions Celtic.

However any team that wants to sign Rhodes on a permanent deal better get ready to dig deep in their pockets as Middlesbrough are wanting plenty of money. They are looking to recoup the £9m fee they paid to Blackburn last January and if a team can’t stump up that sort of money, Rhodes may end up staying at the Riverside after all.
