Peterborough United – An overview of November

It was billed as the biggest month of Peterborough United’s season, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

November began with an FA Cup first round tie at home to Chesham United. It may not have been a pretty result, but Posh got the job done. Their 2-1 victory saw them progress to the second round of the competition, where they will meet League Two side Notts County.

They won by the same score line against Barnet in the Checkatrade trophy match. Posh rested several players due to the fact that they had already been eliminated, but still managed to come away with the victory.

Their first real test of the month came in front of the Sky Cameras at home to Bolton Wanderers.

Bolton sat in 2nd place when they arrived at the ABAX, and Posh knew the importance of picking up all three points.

And that’s exactly what they did, thanks to Michael Smith’s wonder strike early in the first half.

They held on to claim the victory, and in the process keep only their third clean sheet of the season.

Posh had an even bigger game the following week. A trip to their local rivals Northampton Town saw a record attendance at Sixfields.

However it was the 1600 or so Posh fans who were celebrating, when captain Chris Forrester nodded home in added time to give Posh their second victory over their rivals in the space of a month.

It was a huge victory for Posh, who cemented their place in the Play Offs.

League leaders Scunthorpe United visited the ABAX Stadium the following Tuesday, but Posh weren’t able to emulate their previous successes. The visitors’ class showed, and they ran away 2-0 victors.

This was to be the final game of the month for Peterborough United.

Their League One Clash with Oldham Athletic was suspended due to a frozen pitch.

Overall, it’s been a good month for Grant McCann’s men, and long may that continue into December!
