Bury

Who should be the next Bury head coach?

For some reason, I’ve always tipped Bury to do well. I think it was down to a decent head coach and a number of impressive signings.

However this year it really didn’t work. They went on a bad run of form and David Flitcroft was shown the door after once being tipped as a bright prospect in management. How times change.

Anyway, it’s now time to look for a new boss, but who could it be?

Phil Neville

Nothing like a hometown boy returning is there? Phil Neville was raised in Bury and his dad was a director, so it does seem right that he would be their next manager. He has top class coaching experience at Manchester United and Valencia too. However he has no management experience, and his brother Gary wasn’t exactly a great manager.

Karl Robinson

Another guy seen as one of the brightest prospects in management. His spell at MK Dons was very impressive after he got them promoted to the Sky Bet Championship and while things haven’t gone well since, he’s well admired for establishing a very attractive style of play. But would he be willing to take a sideway step after leaving the Dons?

Steve Eyre

Eyre is a highly regarded coach thanks to his spells with Manchester City’s youth team and at Huddersfield Town, where he was even caretaker manager for a spell. However his only time in management was with Bury’s rivals Rochdale and it was incredibly disastrous and was sacked after just six months, so is he worth giving another shot.

Chris Brass

There’s always a respectable argument for continuity. Brass has been a coach at Bury for years, so he knows the players well. He even has management experience having been the head coach at York City all the way back in 2003, though it didn’t go well. But with that poor run of form they are on, is continuity really what they want?

Chris Lucketti

If there’s one way to get the fans on board, it’s by appointing a fan favourite. Lucketti spent six years at the Shakers in the 90s and he made over 200 appearances for them. He does have coaching experience as well at Fleetwood Town and has been their caretaker manager two times. But is this just a play for nostalgia rather than getting the best candidate?
