Curle expects Carlisle to receive January bids for his top scorer

Speaking to the Carlisle News & Star, Carlisle United manager Keith Curle admits that the club are bracing themselves to receive bids for striker Charlie Wyke in January. The 23-year-old forward has enjoyed an excellent start to the season, netting nine goals for the Cumbrians.

Carlisle sit second in the League Two table, suffering just one league loss out of their 18 matches so far. They’re three points behind league leaders going into the weekend, where they welcome Steve Evans’ Mansfield Town to Brunton Park. Curle however acknowledged that the club could lose some key players once the transfer window reopens.

Curle has already started that goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and full back Tom Miller are two names highly likely to receive plenty of attention in January, but now Wyke can be added to that list,

“A lot of people might not notice the work he does, but I do, and Charlie gets his rewards.

“I’ll be surprised if someone doesn’t come in and test our arm with Charlie in January.

“He’s got everything you’d want from a centre-forward. He’s mobile, brave, strong, and has good technique and understanding.”

Wyke came through the ranks at Middlesbrough and had several loan moves away from the Riverside Stadium in recent times. He enjoyed stints at Kettering, Hartlepool (twice) and AFC Wimbledon, before penning a free transfer to Carlisle in January 2015. He is their top scorer this season so far, and with the clear aim now being promotion into League One, Curle is hoping to keep his star men at the club beyond January.
