Birmingham emerge as contender to sign Scunthorpe winger

Birmingham City have emerged as one of the contenders to sign Scunthorpe United’s Josh Morris according to a report from The Sun.

The 25-year-old winger signed for the Iron this summer following his release from Bradford City and has quickly become a star player and one of the best deals of the season. He has scored a stunning 15 goals this season and is a big reason why the Lincolnshire club are at the top of Sky Bet League One right now.

But unsurprisingly, this has attracted the attention of clubs higher up in the league pyramid. Earlier this week it had been reported that several Sky Bet Championship clubs were interested in signing Morris but then it was unknown which clubs were planning to make a move. But now we know at least one after this report suggests that Birmingham were very interested in him and may make a bid in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Blues are set to get some major investment for the first time in many years after their recent takeover and their head coach Gary Rowett is hoping to use some of the money to bring Morris to the Championship. With Morris having some minor experience of this league before having started his career with Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham believe this could be his time to step back into the second tier.

One thing that will hearten their attempts to sign Morris is that reportedly he is interested. The midfielder does want to return to playing at a higher level and play leave Scunthorpe to make sure he gets there at the earliest possible chance.
