Blackpool FC: Fans throw eggs and mushrooms/solidarity showed

Blackpool fans held yet another protest before their FA cup tie against Kidderminster on Sunday.

An estimated 250 people turned up outside Bloomfield Road to protest against the continued ownership of the Oyston family.

Fans, amongst the ‘we want Oyston out’ chants, at one point took to hurling mushrooms and eggs towards the club entrance, located in the West Stand.

The official attendance in the FA cup first round tie against Kidderminster yesterday was 1,963 with 904 supporters making the trip from the Midlands. This figure, though, is said to be a false one and has been questioned at by a number of people. Below is an official picture released on Twitter yesterday afternoon.

One of the protesters is said to be a local businessman, Jeremy Smith, who won his court case against the Oyston Family on Thursday.

A host of Kidderminster fans also took part in the protest which suggests that the need for solidarity has very much hit home. The fact non-league supporters are willing to sacrifice their day in the limelight to help a club in crisis shows how big the issue is.

If fans don’t act, football as we know it will die. The number of historical football league clubs whose recent history has been destroyed by poor ownership is increasing by the season.

Along with Blackpool’s rapid demise, we’ve also seen Coventry and Blackburn continue to struggle. Leyton Orient another, they’ve gone from being top of League One three years ago, to facing a relegation out of the football league completely.

Fans must continue to address the issues now, or else it could be too late.
