Walsall’s Kieran Toner has told the Express & Star that he wants to stay at the club until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old defender is currently on loan at the Saddlers from fellow West Midlands side Aston Villa, but that is set to expire in January which would mean he could well go back to Villa Park during the January transfer window. Toner has played well for Walsall since signing for them and all indications point to the Black County side hoping to extend his loan until the end of the season.
And Toner, who is an international for the Republic of Ireland youth side, agrees as he has said that h wants to extend his deal and stay at the Bescot Stadium until the end of the year. He believes that he has a lot more to learn playing in Sky Bet League One than he does if he returns to Aston Villa and plays in the development leagues.
He said: “If I can I’d like to stay on and get a full season in League One,”
“It’s a great team spirit here. I was one of the later boys to come in but everyone is so friendly and they all came up to me and welcomed me in.”
“It is 100 per cent better for me than playing in the under-21 league,”
Toner will get another chance to show the fans and the management that he deserves a loan extension when they play Macclesfield Town in the FA Cup today.
