Aston Villa: David Davis labels academy graduate his toughest opponent

David Davis has labelled Aston Villa academy graduate, Isaiah Osbourne, as the toughest opponent he has ever faced in a match.

Davis, broke Villa hearts on Sunday as he grabbed the equaliser for Blues in the Derby on Sunday. Cancelling out Gary Gardners earlier opener.

The former Wolves man, who made his Premier League debut in March 2012, went on to say during an interview with SkyBet that Osbourne showed him how to play like a man as a youngster.

“In my whole career? When I was younger I played against Isaiah Osbourne in a reserve game. I was only 17 and he showed me what it was like to play against a man.”

Sadly for Osbourne, he never really hit the heights. Following a short spell where he made the Villa matchday squad, he was shipped out on loan three times in just two years. Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday, respectively.

Following his temporary stints away from Villa park, he was eventually released by the club at the end of the 2010/11 season, Linking up with Scottish club, Hibernian.

He went on to spend just one season at Hibs and joined Blackpool on a one-year-deal at the end of the following season. When his spell in Lancashire concluded, he joined Scunthorpe.

following his decision to leave The Iron, a spell dogged by injuries at his next club, Walsall, meant  he didn’t feature for the entire 2015-16 season.

He was, offered the chance to impress at the club, however, and signed a new contract at the beginning of this campaign.

At the time, Walsall manager, John Whitney, told BBC Sport that his fortunes had finally improved.

“I’ve spent time with him in the past year.

He’s been through some tough days in and out of the hospital with his injury. But together we saw a chink of light.”
