Portsmouth: League Two side sign non-league hotshot

One-time European competitors, Portsmouth, have today announced the signing of Hampton and Richmond forward, Jamal Lowe.

Lowe, who has previously represented Barnet in the Football League, joins the south-coast outfit after scoring 18 goals in his 22 National League South appearances so far this season.

The club has confirmed that he will officially become a Portsmouth player in January – on a deal that will run until summer 2018.

Pompey are reported to have beaten off the competition of non-league money-bags, Eastleigh, who have shown an interest in the forward in recent times.

Following his spell at Barnet, where he made a handful of appearances, he went on to represent St Albans and Hemel Hempstead before finally finding a successful home in London.

His fifteen goals for Hampton last season, contributed immensely as they claimed the Ryman Premier Division title.

Their manager,  Alan Dowson, despite having extended Lowe’s contract, has been expecting the news since the end of last season. In May (2016) he was quoted in an interview with the Surrey Comet and revealed that any repeat of the form of last season – Lowe wouldn’t be with them in the following December. That prediction has been proved right.

He said at the time: “Nicke and Jamal have been fantastic for us this year, I’m delighted to have tied them to contracts because they are still young and can still improve. If they keep playing as they have, I’m telling you now that they will be gone before Christmas and they will go for big money.”

His new side Portsmouth, face a trip to 19th placed Cambridge tomorrow. Kick off 15:00 GMT.
