Leeds United ignoring Liverpool and focusing on Burton Albion

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has told the club website that they are ignoring the upcoming Liverpool match and focusing on this weekend’s match with Burton Albion.

During the week, Leeds were able to beat Norwich City on penalties to advance into the quarter finals of the EFL Cup and were rewarded for their long run by getting a tantalising draw with Liverpool. The last time these two teams faced each other was in another League Cup fixture when Liverpool edged out Leeds with a 1-0 win with the goal coming from David N’Gog.

However that game is not for another month and their manager Monk is refusing to get excited abot it and will instead focus on their upcoming Sky Bet Championship matches. And coming up next for Leeds is Burton Albion, a team that they have never faced in a competitive fixture before and while Burton have never been in this league before, they are performing well and are 15th in the table.

Monk said: “I’m not interested in the draw, that is for everyone else to enjoy and our fans can be happy with it.”

“I will talk more about that and the group will focus on Liverpool when the game comes, we have four league games before that and an international break.”

“We have to be very aware on Saturday, it is very important and a big game for us, the cup has gone now and our only focus is Burton.”

“We are not overlooking Burton one bit, they have been fantastic and Nigel has them playing really well.”

“They are a very difficult team to play against, they have good talent as well and some very good individual players who can win games.”

“They have had some really good results, we need to be focused and ready and try and pay Burton that respect by trying to put our best performance on again.”
