Kenny Jackett unhappy that Richie Smallwood was loaned out

Rotherham United head coach Kenny Jackett has told the Yorkshire Post that he is very unhappy that Richie Smallwood was loaned out and is not available for him.

The 25-year-old had been a regular for the Millers until this summer and the appointment of Alan Stubbs as head coach. He decided to break up the partnership between him and Lee Frecklington and following that he ended up loaning Smallwood out to Scunthorpe United. And this has been great news for the Iron as the midfielder has helped them get to the top of the Sky Bet League One table.

However now that Jackett is the manager of Rotherham, he is cursing the fact that Smallwood has been loaned out. Due to the deal the two sides made in terms of the loan deal they can’t recall him right now, though the club are currently looking into if they are able to get him back in the January transfer window.

Jackett said: “Richie is an experienced midfielder,”

“Coming here as an opposing manager many times, Frecklington and Smallwood always give you a game.”

“We will have to see (if he can be recalled in January). We will explore all avenues and try to add competition, experience and enthusiasm.”

“We will look to do everything we possibly can to improve the team and results. It’s planning for each window and how you come out of it is even more important because you haven’t got the flexibility each way.”

Rotherham will have to continue to cope without Smallwood in their next game against Ipswich Town.
