Charlie Taylor

Premier League champions enter race for Leeds starlet

The Daily Mirror reports that Premier League champions Leicester City are monitoring Leeds United left back Charlie Taylor over signing the player on a free next summer. It is expected that the 23-year-old will leave Elland Road at the end of the season when his contract expires, after rejecting offers to extend his deal.

Claudio Ranieri has sent scout Dave Philpotts to watch the youngster in action. The Foxes had the player watched in the EFL Cup penalty shoot-out victory against Norwich City on Tuesday night, Taylor was an unused substitute for that game.

Leicester are keen to add more youngsters to their squad to give them a foundation to build upon in future years. The club shocked the world by winning the Premier League title last season against all the odds, and have so far enjoyed a 100% record in their maiden appearance in the UEFA Champions League.

Several other Premier League clubs are said to be interested in snapping Taylor up eventually. West Bromwich Albion are the other side that are often linked with the player, with Tony Pulis clearly a fan of the player. Although Leicester left back Christian Fuchs recently signed a new contract, Ranieri is said to want a long-term alternative in this area. Ben Chilwell is often linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium, he being another highly-rated young English left back.
