Pompey striker not for sale

SkyBet League Two club Portsmouth have confirmed that striker Conor Chaplin is not for sale according to The Portsmouth News.

The 19 year old Worthing born striker is making a good impression in the early days of his footballing career at Fratton Park and has been linked with a big money move away from the South Coast.

Despite the transfer speculation, Pompey have re-iterated the fact that Chaplin is a Portsmouth player are will not be sold in the near future.

Chaplin is a product of the club’s academy system and the player signed a new one year extension to his current contract with the club last week. The deal ties the striker to the club until summer 2019 and is the second extension signed by Chaplin in the last 13 months.

The youngster made his first team debut for Portsmouth in December 2014 in a 3-2 home defeat to Accrington Stanley and Chaplin has gone on to become an important member of the Pompey side making 61 appearances and scoring 16 goals.

With Portsmouth battling for promotion to SkyBet League One once again this season, it is vitally important that the club retains it’s most influential player and Chaplin certainly falls into that category. Pompey are in 5th position in the SkyBet League Two table, five points behind Doncaster Rovers in third place.
