Doing a Leeds: 10 managerial casualties up to Zenga this season

There was a revolving door policy at Elland Road when it comes to managerial appointments, courtesy of trigger-happy Massimo Cellino, Leeds United’s itchy-fingered owner.

He came to English football not only with a reputation of a ‘hire-em, fire-em’ appraoch, but also with a nickname to boot .Il Mangia Alenatori he was called – the manager eater. This proved to be the case with his first manager, Brian McDermott not lasting too long and his successor David Hockaday being given the same shrift.

Darko Milanic and Uwe Rosler can be added to that list of hardly time-served managers at Elland Road. As can Neil Redfearn who served two spells in charge, one as a caretaker role, before being treated shabbily by Cellino in a despicably handed case between the club and Lucy Ward.

The drift seemed to stop somewhat with the heft of Steve Evans being employed, slimmed down and then managing to outlast the record of all his predecessors employed under the governership of Cellino, before he also was treated shabbily.

Now there’s Garry Monk, former Swansea boss who has managed to last 14 games into the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship season without being hoicked out on his ear.

However, across the English Football League there have been 10 managerial casualties, the latest being today’s sacking by Wolves of the unfortunate Walter Zenga.

Which poses the tongue-in-cheek question: how very dare they do a Leeds and sack managers so early into the season.

Coming up, the first two casualties of the 2016/17 season.
