Aston Villa – Away-day sell out, Birmingham derby preview

Aston Villa will once again be playing in front of a sold-out away end when they travel to Brighton on the 18th November.

The Friday night fixture, which is set to be shown on Sky Sports, will see 3287 Villans making the journey to the south coast.

This coincides with the upturn in form they have experienced recently, which has seen them win their last two games.

Firstly, however, for Villa, is the short trip to St Andrews to face arch rivals, Birmingham City on Sunday.

The game sees former Birmingham manager, Steve Bruce, visit his old stomping ground.

When questioned about the reception he is likely to face, Bruce, who has always been greeted with a warm reception from the Birmingham crowd upon return, offered a joke to the Birmingham Mail.

“I’m sure I am going to be welcomed with open arms,” he said.

“There is a huge rivalry and that’s just what it is.

Let’s remember it is a special occasion and a big one for the second city. It hasn’t happened for five years so let’s look forward to it.

It should be a nice quiet affair.”

The big question mark regarding Villa team news at this stage is whether long-servent Gabby Agbonlahor may be called upon.

The former England international has only scored one goal in eighteen months for the club he has supported since he was a young boy, but has been promised a clean slate by the new manager.

He has previously scored four times in second-city derbies, and the game on Sunday could be the perfect thing to get him back in the swing of things.

It is unlikely, however, after so long out – that he’ll be fit enough to take part.
