Carlos Carvalhal praises perfectly executed plan

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has told the club website that his team executed their game plan to perfection in their 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

It was always going to be a tight game as the Owls traveled to the John Smith’s Stadium to face a side that has been top of the Sky Bet Championship for many weeks this season and were hoping to return to the summit of the table with a win today. And for most of the game, that was what happened with both teams only having a few chances on goal, with Huddersfield coming coming close with a deflected Rajiv van la Parra strike while Fernando Forestieri’s chipped shot hit the post.

However the moment of the game came when after a corner, van la Parra was judged to have handled Tom Lees shot. Forestieri stepped up to take the penalty and after fooling goalkeeper Danny Ward with a stutter run up, smashed the spot kick into the top corner.

And with Wednesday beating a team that could be up there with them at the top of the Championship for the rest of season, Carvalhal was very happy saying: “Today we played against a very strong team.”

“They have a good dynamic and they cause a lot of problems to all the teams they play.”

“However, we had plenty of time to prepare the game and learn how to play against Huddersfield.”

“We worked very hard and everybody defended, including the strikers, and we blocked their dynamic.”

“We put in a lot of work in the training so that we didn’t come up against any surprises today.”

“Today was a victory of quality.”

“People ask me a lot about the partnerships in our team, but I don’t agree with this, because there’s only one partnership that matters, and that is Sheffield Wednesday as a whole.”
